Owned and maintained by the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, the Monte Cristo Cottage is the famous playwright's childhood home. Built in the 1840s and featuring a scenic sun porch and stairs with lattice work banisters, the house was O'Neill's sole residence into his 20s, when he began supporting himself with his writing. Visitors can tour the interior, which has been restored and decorated to reflect the dramatist's own description of the house in Long Day's Journey Into Night. The House lies on the waterfront, next to Mitchell College.
