The Custom House Maritime Museum offers both a chronicle of the area's centuries-old relationship with the sea, and an invaluable glimpse at the oldest continuously operating customhouse in the country. A customhouse is an office building for customs officials, also known as government workers who process a country's imports and exports. Visitors to the museum can view exhibitions covering such topics as Amistad and the Jibboom Club, or explore the building's double basements, vaulted ceilings, and other architectural treasures. The museum lies in the heart of downtown, near Williams Memorial Park.
